The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of coping skills training with stress on mental health and self-esteem in girl students in first high schools of Yazd city. The research method was semi-experimental with pre- post test, placebo and control group. The population of this study consisted of 90 female students of first high schools in Yazd city that were selected by multistage cluster sampling and designed to three groups (experimental, control and placebo) randomly. Then experimental group administered 9 sessions of at most 75 minutes stress management skills training. Participants were tested with Goldberg General Health Questionnaire (GHQ), Cooper Smith’s self-esteem and Perceived Stress Scale Cohen questionnaire before and after treatment. The results showed that there was a significant difference between experiment and control group in mental health and self -esteem. The rate of perceived stress and problems based on mental health decreased and self -esteem in experimental group in comparison with pre test and control group significantly increased.
